UMES Brave Project

  • In August of 2018, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore was 1 of 57 colleges and universities across the nation to receive an Office on Violence Against Women Campus Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The OVW Campus Grant's purpose is to reduce Dating/Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking. Additionally it helps campuses to create coordinated community response teams that allow partnerships between on and off-campus departments, services, and agencies. The 3 year grant will allow the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to:

    • Increase campus efforts to reducing and preventing sexual violence
    • Develop and promote a campus environment that supports victims/survivors of sexual violence
    • Develop sexual violence awareness, educational programs, and training offered to UMES students, faculty, and staff
    • Develop and promote a campus environment that encourages victims/survivors to report incidents of sexual violence without fear of retaliation and intimidation
    • Establish and implement a campus coordinated community response team where campus constituents and community partners create and make recommendations related to the campus’s prevention and response

In the fall of 2020, the program was officially named the UMES B.R.A.V.E. (Building Resistance Against Violence Engagement) Project.
