Bury Merry ChristmasPRINCESS ANNE, MD - Director Brian Perez and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Jazz Combo pitched in with other area musicians to record pieces for "a 'Bury Merry Christmas" benefiting a local charity.

The CD is available today at retailers in Salisbury for $10.  It is the brain child of Chris Demone, an engineer with WBOC TV 16's Delmarva Life show.

Perez applauded the effort to "create a movement for the arts and to foster a strong musical community." He and the students in the Jazz Combo signed on without hesitation to "contribute our talents to support the community."

The CD benefits not only the community, but the young musicians involved as well.

"I was really excited to take a professional project like this and showcase the talents of the students," Perez said.  "It lets them in on the real world experience of putting together a recording.  There are a lot of ins and outs to the creative and recording process."

Students who recorded were Tyreese Pleasanton on flute (pictured), Lloyd Griffith on trumpet, Jon Gates on trombone and Chris Brittingham on bass.  UMES faculty featured on the CD are Perez on saxophone and Patrick McHenry on drums.

Along with the UMES Jazz Combo, local musicians Aaron Hardin, Josh Davis, Snow Angels, Alex & Shiloh, Valerie Lankford, MREs, Adam Stevenson, DJ Rusty Griswald, Ben Rayne, Stereocean, Wes Davis, Willow Brook, Test Kitchen, It's Not Rocket Science, Union Rd and Chris & Dani are featured on the album.

Proceeds benefit The Giving Tree Fund administered by Riverside Pharmacy.  The fund helps offset the cost of prescription medications for those who need financial assistance, Perez said.
