The Dean's Message
Welcome to the website of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Thank you for your interest in our programs. UMES is the doctoral degree granting institution on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and one of eleven degree-granting campuses in the University System of Maryland.
With a growing residential population of 4,290 undergraduate and graduate students, UMES is ranked in the top tier of Historically Black Colleges and Universities by U.S. News and World Report. An 1890 Historically Black Land Grant Institution, UMES continues to build on its strengths of teaching and research. Consequently, graduate course offerings range from master’s programs in Applied Computer Science, Toxicology, Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Criminal Justice, to doctoral programs in Food Science and Technology, Marine-Estuarine-Environmental Sciences, Organizational Leadership and Toxicology.
