UMES to Host Ninth Annual Health and Wellness Festival
PRINCESS ANNE, MD - University of Maryland Eastern Shore faculty and staff prepare to host the community during its ninth annual Health and Wellness Fair. On Wednesday, March 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Services Center ballroom, individuals are able to explore health and wellness exhibits and participate in health-related screenings. The event is free and open to the public.
Faculty and staff from the UMES departments of Physical Therapy, Human Ecology, Physician Assistant and Human Resources along with the UMES Health and Wellness Center and at least 30 other health-related agencies, businesses and organizations prepare health exhibits and provide health screenings and interactive services dealing with nutrition and fitness, mental wellness, dental health, vision, cancer awareness, smoking cessation, drug and alcohol awareness, HIV, birth defects and community health programs and services.
While statistically the Eastern Shore is high on the charts for incidences of cancer and other such diseases, education through institutions like UMES partnering with community-based organizations remains the key to prevention.
“In addition to the abundance of current health information and health screenings, we will have live health and fitness demonstrations throughout the day. We welcome all members of our Lower Eastern Shore community,” said Janet Mutschler, UMES Health and Wellness Festival co-coordinator.
