You can purchase U.S. Savings Bonds through payroll deduction. Participation can be initiated at any time by contacting the Benefits Office for an enrollment form.

Maryland Charity Campaign
Consistent with the goals of research, teaching and service, the university maintains an active role in community activities. Each year the university participates in the Maryland Charity Campaign and is proud to join in this worthwhile effort to raise funds to support the hundreds of health and human service agencies that depend upon the contributions received through this campaign.

Travel Discounts
Employees of the University of Maryland have access to a number of discounts on travel related services. These discounts include car rentals, hotel accommodations, and admissions to theme parks. Information regarding travel related discounts can be obtained by contacting either the Staff Benefits section of the Personnel Services Department or Travel Services.

Child Care
The university's on-campus childcare center, the Child & Family Development Center of university employees, ages three though kindergarten. You can find out more about this program by calling the center at extension 6173.

Library Services
Employees have access to all of the library services available on campus. In order to use one of the many campus libraries, you will need a Faculty/Staff identification card. You can also check out the library on the web at http://www.fdl.umes.umd.edu.

Faculty/Staff Assistance Program (FSAP)
The FSAP is a free, confidential, and professional assessment, referral, and counseling service available to all campus employees. You may consult with a professional counselor for a variety of reasons, including marital, couple or family conflicts, depression, anxiety, stress, job/career difficulties, alcohol or drug abuse, financial difficulties or any other troubling concern.
You may also contact the FSAP when the problems of a family member, co-worker or colleague are affecting your life or job. If you are a supervisor or department head, you may consult a FSAP counselor to discuss work-related employee problems.

Credit Union
You and your family are eligible to join the State Employees Credit Union (SECU). Services offered include interest bearing and/or share draft (checking) accounts, loan privileges, individual retirement accounts, as well as convenient payroll deductions for savings and loan repayments. The Staff Benefits section of the Personnel Services Department can provide further information on how to contact the local SECU office for further information on eligibility requirements and other details.

Workers' Compensation
If injuries are promptly reported and accident reports are promptly and appropriately files, you are covered under the Workers' Compensation Law for injuries sustained on the job in the line of duty. Medical expenses are covered and compensation is based on the nature of the injury and your salary at the time of the injury.
As an additional benefit, accident leave a two-thirds of pay may be granted for up to one year from the date of the injury. This status is available for a disabling condition that results from an accidental personal injury sustained in the performance of your job duties.
