WHAT IS FLIPS?
Financial Literacy is Paramount 4 Success (FLIPS) is a new initiative that has been developed on our campus to increase the knowledge and awareness of our students about money management, student loan debt, and financial aid.
The project developed f rom a team of University employees who attended a (2010) Summer Academy on Financial Literacy and a (2011) Symposium on Financial Literacy and College Success at Minority-Serving Institutions sponsored by the Institute of Higher Education Policy (IHEP). The project was launched in Fall 2011 through the Office of Student Financial Aid. This project is supported by USA Funds.
The goal of FLIPS is to improve student success, retention, graduation, and cohort default rates for federal student loans at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The mission of FLIPS is to refine and enhance institutional collaboration through various financial literacy programs to assist students in improving financial knowledge (budgeting, debt and money management, credit scores, and educational financial support).
This project will allow evaluation and assessment techniques to better identify and track student success.
