Air Traffic Controller Laboratory

Emulation of U.S. TRACON (STARS, ARTS IIIE, ACD) and en route (DSR/Host) radar and flight data systems, IDS information display and VSCS voice switching panels.Customizable human machine interface (HMI) can accurately emulate any radar display in the world, from full-color digital to older monochrome analog displays. The radar simulator supports a wide range of hardware, from full, multi-display consoles with 2Kx2K LCD monitors, thermal flight strip printers, custom keyboards and trackballs, to simpler tabletop systems using off-the-shelf PC displays, printers and input devices, to a stand-alone deployable laptop with peripherals
In an effort to support the pilot communications and air traffic clearance research being conducted within the department, we are currently in procurement of a Xavius Systems Inc.Air Traffic Control TRACON simulator. The simulator will be used in conjunction with the current pseudo-pilot platform to relay air traffic commands to the pilot and precisely monitor flight crew compliance with the received clearance. The simulator data will need to be archived for future analysis. The equipment currently being procured for integration in to the human factors/ flight simulation laboratory will have the following capabilities:
Be able to emulate U.S. TRACON (ARTS IIIE, ACD) and Enroute (DSR/Host) radar and flight data systems.
Solo and Multi-user option supporting a minimum of 2-4 radar/or pseudo pilot positions with accompanying Enroute and TRACON instructor station.
Display realistic (high fidelity) information and VSCS voice switching panels. The ability to emulate flight data user interfaces. Have the ability to expand the number of air traffic stations if necessary.
Be able to run multiple air traffic sectors and be able to integrate pseudo-pilot stations.
Possess voice-over-IP interphone and radio simulators.
The ability to connect human and computer controllers together across campuses.
Realistic radio characteristics (static and clipping effect) with frequency over-ride capability and land-line call option.
Must provide non- radar functionality
Ability to print out flight strips in proper FAA format (FAAO 7110.65.)
Be able to network with DIS and HLA networks (simulator platform).
Ability to generate pre-scripted traffic scenarios through user prompting.
Ability to import DAFIF and Jeppesen Navigation chart/approach data.
Include cost of maintenance and any software licensing for up to 2 years past the initial agreement.
Voice and scenario recording capability for analysis and report generation. Files
should be able to be replayed on any standard PC running Microsoft windows.
Radar Simulator
CSC's NexSim™ Radar Simulator provides off-the-shelf emulation of U.S. TRACON (STARS, ARTS IIIE, ACD) and en route (DSR/Host) radar and flight data systems, IDS information display and VSCS voice switching panels.
Our robust radar simulator was designed to support FAA controller training or FAA Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) programs. Our customizable human machine interface (HMI) can accurately emulate any radar display in the world, from full-color digital to older monochrome analog displays.
The radar simulator supports a wide range of hardware, from full, multi-display consoles with 2Kx2K LCD monitors, thermal flight strip printers, custom keyboards and trackballs, to simpler tabletop systems using off-the-shelf PC displays, printers and input devices, to a stand-alone deployable laptop with peripherals.
Tower Simulator
Our NexSim Tower Simulator is a full-scale ATC simulator that supports installations from single desktops to seamless 360- degree wraparound displays. It offers the following features:
- Single or dual local and ground controller positions
- Flight data position with paper or electronic strip printing
- Voice recognition or pseudo-pilot option
- Stunning high-resolution visuals with "alive" out-the-window environment that includes active airport, ground vehicle, traffic and dynamic weather effects
- Console display and controls include simulated ground radar (e.g., ASDE-X); local-control display (e.g., DBRITE, RACD and STARS); weather and information displays; airfield lighting controls, etc.
- Full touch screen voice-over-IP interphone and radio panels (DIS/HLA compatible)
- Fully interfaces with the NexSim Technology Suite Radar Simulator to allow gate-to-gate scenarios that accurately emulate ATC operations.
