IRISH-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH 2012
By The Interim President of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
As the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) continues to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of its founding, there is recognition that numerous individuals of various cultures share the history of our institution, state, country and world. This month we honor Irish- Americans for centuries of contributions to our culture and toward the liberties we presently enjoy. St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday which originated to honor St. Patrick who introduced and promoted Christianity in Ireland.
Therefore, as Interim President of UMES, I hereby proclaim March as Irish-American Heritage Month at UMES. I call upon all faculty, staff, and students to observe this month through learning more about Irish-American history and through celebratory activities, especially on March 17th.
