Fine Arts December graduates exhibit work at UMES
PRINCESS ANNE, MD –(Dec. 2, 2013) “Presences and Personas,” an art exhibit featuring the works of two University of Maryland Eastern Shore fine arts majors graduating this month, opens Dec. 5 with a reception from 4-6 p.m. in the Mosely Gallery.
Megan Powell and Jared Murphy, both of Salisbury, are the artists.
Powell has selected photographs from her collection of abandoned buildings, which reflect “Presences,” to display.
“These spaces retain something from previous inhabitants and events that she was able to feel while shooting and tried to capture that feeling with her camera,” said Susan Holt, the Mosely Gallery director.
Powell’s concentration is commercial photography. She interned for and has been hired by Kim Luck Photography, a professional studio in Ocean City, Md. Examples of Powell’s commercial art will also be on view, Holt said.
As a sequential artist, Murphy has developed his own comic book characters. These “Personas” will be showcased in the form of pencil drawings, computer illustrations and a large scale pin-up, Holt said.
Murphy interned with Coldstream Studio in Mardela Springs and has exhibited and sold his work at Comic Con fairs in Philadelphia and Baltimore. He also regularly participates in the Salisbury Downtown Plaza’s third Friday event.
The show runs through Dec. 13. Admission to the Mosely Gallery located on the second floor of the Thomas Briggs Arts and Technology Building is free. Call 410-651-7770 or visit www.moselygallery.com for more information.
